Hold fn. Get more from what you have.
I build, modernise and run systems for companies that want more from their technology, with AI where it earns its place.
Get in touchThe keys show their second functions: Support, Modernise, Develop and Advise. Focus, hover over or hold fn to see F1, F5, F12 and fn. Space or Enter switches.
Services
From looking after what you already run to advising on what comes next.
Support and hosting
I host and maintain your systems, and I'm the one you call when something goes wrong.
I run the servers my clients' FileMaker systems depend on, with automatic backups.
Modernisation
Systems that work but have aged get a second life: a FileMaker solution moved to the web, or a subscription service replaced by an app you own.
Development
New systems built around how the business actually works, for the web, Mac and iPad.
Advice
Advice on e-commerce and AI, and workshops where development teams learn to work with AI agents.
After a two-hour seminar, a development team had a working agentic workflow up and running.
What I have built
Before FunctionKey
A large European Apple retailer
At a company with over 1,000 employees and more than 100 stores, I was the lead developer for B2B solutions, one of three senior developers in a team of around eight. I built CRM and project management for the business sales team, and a BI tool that answers questions about the business in plain language. I was also the sole developer of a Mac sales tool and an AI marketing analyst for the Swedish marketing team.
Client since 2007
A supplier to the public sector
The company supplies workwear to the public sector, and since 2007 I have built the systems behind the business, including the e-commerce integrations with the Swedish Migration Agency and the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. When it acquired an online spare-parts shop in 2026, I took over the shop and had a new design live within a week; since then I have improved its product data, search and Google Shopping. For its fundraising coffee for school classes and clubs, I built a new site and an app where teams run their sales from their phones.
My own product
Huvudbok: bookkeeping in an app of my own
My bookkeeping and invoicing used to require a cloud subscription. Now they run in Huvudbok, a Mac app I built with AI agents as my development team, and it holds eleven years of imported records. An AI assistant can post entries following the same rules the app enforces, and every change is logged.
Client
A haulage company in central Sweden
The company schedules its trucks in a system I built and have hosted for several years: bookings, changes and a weekly calendar in the office, iPad views for drivers in the cab, and a link to the weighbridge when loading and unloading. Bookings sync to the office calendars, so everyone works from the same plan.
More I have built
- A service and repair system for a large Apple workshop with around 50 technicians.
- A customer portal where business clients see their devices, financing contracts and repairs, live from the business system.
- Sales support integrated by API with several finance companies.
- CRM and sales system for a multi-office telemarketing company, including commission reporting.
- Contracts, pay, subscribers and an intranet for a regional music institution.
- A business system for a textile company, integrated with its accounting software.
- A CRM with customer records, access rights and invoicing for a group of small companies.
- My own invoicing and quoting app, delivered to several small businesses.

About
fn are my initials. The fn key is what I do: it unlocks the second function of what you already have.
I'm Fredric Nilgran. I've been building business systems for over 30 years, much of that time in FileMaker. My first company, an Apple business I started in 1988, was acquired in 1999, partly because of the business system I had built for it.
Today I build for the web, Mac and iPad, and AI agents are part of my development team.
FunctionKey is my consultancy. When you hire me, I do the work myself, from the first conversation until the system is live.
I'm based in Västerås, Sweden, and work with clients in Sweden and abroad.
